Responding to Cessationism Comments Pt. 2

Comment. While there is clear Scriptural support for the idea that miracles, for example, are confirmatory in nature (2 Cor 12:12; John 5:36), some cessationists would argue that the gift of prophecy is a speaking gift (“forth-telling” as opposed to “fore-telling”) and thus continues on to this day. Other cessationists might argue that the discerning of spirits relates to the distinguishing between “the Spirit of truth and the spirit of error” which all believers are called upon to practice in I Peter 4. As such this would certainly be a gift which has a continuing need today in contrast to a gift needed only during the 1st Century.
Response. Mr. Wismer has rightly noted biblical support for the concept that miracles had a confirmatory nature, as also seen in a number of other texts as well (e.g., Heb. 2:3-4 et al.).
